Pride Month is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of LGBTQIA+ communities. It can also bring up difficult emotions related to coming out, family relationships, discrimination, or past experiences of rejection.
LGBTQIA+ individuals experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and trauma, often due to stigma and minority stress rather than their identities themselves. Having access to affirming support can make a meaningful difference.
San Antonio LGBTQIA+ Mental Health & Community Resources
Pride Center San Antonio – The city's primary LGBTQIA+ community center, offering support groups, community programming, resource navigation, and connections to affirming mental health services. The center maintains an extensive LGBTQIA+ resource directory and mental health resource list.
Alamo Area Resource Center (AARC) – Provides LGBTQIA+-affirming healthcare, transgender health services, PrEP/PEP programs, HIV services, and supportive social services for the San Antonio community.
Thrive Youth Center – Offers housing, mental health services, crisis counseling, and support for LGBTQIA+ young adults ages 18–24 experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
NAMI San Antonio – Provides free support groups, education, and resources for individuals and families affected by mental health conditions.
The Center for Health Care Services – Offers community mental health services, crisis care, psychiatric services, and resources for uninsured individuals in Bexar County.
Prioritizing Your Mental Health
This Pride Month, consider spending time with affirming people, setting healthy boundaries, practicing self-compassion, and reaching out for support when needed.
You deserve a space where you can show up authentically and be fully accepted. Therapy can provide an opportunity to explore challenges, build resilience, and support your overall well-being.
Happy Pride Month!
